Help Us Solve the Cruel Mystery™

Be part of the Lupus Foundation of America, Philadelphia Tri-State Chapter's Walk to End Lupus Now™ event in South Jersey on Sunday, May 19, 2013, and help us take steps to raise money for lupus research and education programs while increasing awareness of lupus and rallying public support for those who suffer from it.

If you join the fight, we will not have to concede victory to this terrible disease. With your support and involvement, we will be able to solve the cruel mystery of lupus in our lifetime and end its devastating impact on millions of lives.

Walk to End Lupus Now™ is the signature event of the Lupus Foundation of America, Inc. In more than 50 cities across America, thousands of people walk to make a difference in the lives of those affected by lupus and to raise essential funds for research, education, and support services.

It is estimated that 1.5 million Americans and 10,000 individuals in Southern New Jersey have lupus. Lupus is an acute and chronic (lifelong) autoimmune disease in which the immune system is unbalanced, causing inflammation and tissue damage to virtually every organ system in the body. It is complex, and no two cases of lupus are the same. After more than 50 years of no new treatments for lupus, recently a new drug has been approved. This is wonderful news; however, we need an arsenal of new safe treatments to conquer lupus because the new treatment is not for all people with lupus. There is hope on the horizon, and with your help, we can find additional better treatments and a cure for lupus.

Proceeds from the 5th Annual Walk to End Lupus NowTM benefit the support programs and services of the Lupus Foundation of America, Philadelphia Tri-State Chapter that help the more than 10,000 individuals living with the challenges of lupus in the South Jersey alone. You will make a difference in the continued effort to find the causes of and cure for lupus through locally funded research and advocacy efforts. Lupus is an unpredictable and misunderstood disease in which the immune system is out of balance, causing damage to any organ system in the body. Symptoms of lupus come and go, change over time, and often imitate other illnesses, making lupus difficult to diagnose. Common symptoms include joint pain, skin rashes, overwhelming fatigue, and fevers that last for days or weeks. The exact cause of lupus is unknown. However, lupus is not contagious. While lupus can strike anyone at any time, 90 percent of the people living with lupus are females. Women of color are at an especially high risk. Lupus usually develops between ages 15 and 44. While lupus can be disabling and fatal, the disease can be managed in most cases through aggressive medical treatment and lifestyle changes.

The Lupus Foundation of America is the only national force devoted to solving the mystery of lupus, one of the world’s cruelest, most unpredictable, and devastating diseases, while giving caring support to those who suffer from its brutal impact. Through a comprehensive program of research, education, and advocacy, we lead the fight to improve the quality of life for all people affected by lupus.

Thank you for your support of the 5th Annual Walk to End Lupus NowTM!

Making a difference starts with one step.
